And now for something completely different ...
This is so cool!

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Marshal Zeringue, who runs this really neat website, My Book The Movie. This is a site where authors get to talk about their books in terms of Hollywood casting and movie making. I'd never come across the site, so I was surprised to hear from him -- and very pleased. So I did a little blurb about Empress (of Mijak), and the casting thoughts I had while writing it. Because I do actually think about actors when I'm writing. For example, in my head, as far as The Accidental Sorcerer goes, Gerald is Ewan McGregor and Lional is Jude Law. And Kate Winslett is Melissande.

Anyhow, I can highly recommend that you drop on over to Marshal's marvellously entertaining website, where a fabulously diverse group of writers natter on about their books and movie stuff.

Hi there!

I loved your post here about this, me and a friend have been writing something together over the last few years and from the very get go we've been scouring Google images for people to fit the characters and conversely so ;).

I've just read Empress this weekend (via a book club) and the characters are still seared across my brain. Very powerful and effective writing. I'm very interested to see the story play out. Thanks for a good read.

Gosh! A book club? Wow. Please pass along my thanks and appreciation to the organisers, and the folk who have read the book.

I'm thrilled you enjoyed it. Not the easiest of journeys, I'm the first to admit! Hopefully you'll enjoy the concluding installments.

Hmm, it was a book club magazine - mail order for books. Empress was on the the first or second page - I haven't read the Mage series yet but will get it on my bookshelf at some point! I wasn't sure what drew me to it. I joined the book club as part of a Christmas present this past Christmas and I am so glad that I have because its introduced me to a lot of new writers that I'm just bowled over by (Abercrombie, Lynch, Duncan in particular). (Since the end of January, I've read 14 titles!)

And oh yes not an easy read by any means - although it says something that I read it in two days in between everything else going on here at home!

Well, that's very exciting! And I'm so thrilled you're enjoying the Duncan. Dave is a particularly fine writer, and he's a lovely lovely lovely man to boot. If you were reading his Alchemist's books, can I recommend that you grab The Gilded Chain, which is the first in his King's Blades series? Some of the finest swashbuckling adventure fantasy ever written, I believe.

Ha!

As part of a taster pack - they include four novels of various writers for a, ahem, discounted price I got 'Impossible Odds' - his standalone story in the Blades series and wow - what a fantastic read! And a great introduction to the universe - told you all I needed to know to make sense of it - without I think it being a repeat for established readers. (I think I got Locke in the same bundle ... Next time I'm trawling Amazon they might find themselves into my order...

Have you read the Crossroads series by Kate Elliott? That's powerful too.

I have Kate's Crossroads books, in my teetering To Be Read pile. I have read her other work, and I think she's the bees' knees. Just tremendous. I got my start with her work reading The Golden Key. If you haven't read that one, I can highly recommend it. Standalone, in 3 parts, each part written by a different author. Magic -- no pun intended.*g*
