More Spiritwalker goodness!

The inimitable Kate Elliott, author of many fabulous fantasy novels, has recently completed her Spiritwalker Trilogy. This is a truly extraordinary series, some of the most innovative and imaginative fantasy fiction released in recent years. If you haven't read it, you're missing out on something really special.

But wait, there's more!

She's also just released a companion piece to the series. You can find out more about it here.

Kate's a good friend, I make no bones about it. But anyone who knows me knows that I don't recommend books that I haven't personally found to be fabulous.

Cover sneak peak!

Well, it's been a while ...

Life this year has proven challenging, to put it mildly, so right now I'm keeping my head down as I finish out the final rewrite of The Path to Power, book 1 of my new series The Tarnished Crown. The book will release next year, but the fabulous people at Orbit have already completed a truly magnificent cover. And here it is!

Have to continue being a bit hush hush about the story, but I promise I'll reveal more when I can!

Tarnished Crown #1 is done - sort of!

Insofar as it has a beginning, a middle and an end. So now people with less mushy brains than me can rip it to shreds so I can rewrite it and make it better.

I hope.

Wow. I'm tired. I'm always tired when I hit the end of a book, especially when it's a Big Book. And this is a Big Book. Never in my life have I tried to keep so many characters, storylines, plot points, foreshadowings and themes straight in my head at the one time.

Is it too late to hike back to Edinburgh and continue being a checkout chick????

Next stop, the edit. Cross your fingers for me!

Really? Really?

The next time someone tries to tell you there's no such thing as misogyny, or sexism, or women are just making shit up about discrimination and so forth, tell them about this. Because really? Really?

There is not enough disgust and contempt in the world. Shame on them. Shame.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

The dawn chorus is chorusing on Christmas Morning downunder. The reason I know this is because I've been writing since 4.30 am. And will do so until it's time to leave for the family Christmas lunch. Then afterwards I'll come back home and write some more. Yes. It has indeed been that kind of year.

To everyone in LJ land, whom I have been shamefully neglecting throughout this year that ate my life, I wish you much joy and peace and happiness during the festive season.

And because it's Christmas, here's a present.

Y'know, I don't think this is your mother and father's Star Trek any more ... but it sure as hell is looking like mine!!!!

Conflux 9 update!

Well, even though it gives me the shudders to say it, 2012 is drawing inexorably to a close. And once we're past the January hump, that means Conflux 9, the 2013 Australian Natcon, will be right around the corner.

For some unfathomable reason, the superstar organisers Donna Hanson and Nicole Murphy have asked me along as the Australian Guest of Honour. And yes indeed, I am still recovering from that one. But I won't be alone. Far from it. The astonishing Nalo Hopkinson and Kaaron Warren will also be there, spreading their bounteous wealth of experience and talent, along with publishser Marc Gascoigne from Angry Robot books.

The con hotel, Rygdes in Canberra, is about to open the hotel for non-con visitors, so if you're coming you need to grab a very reasonably priced room now. And if you're an emerging writer (dunno who coined that term, but for me it's a winner. Aspiring always seemed kind of doubtful and wannabe ... insulting. Anyhow.) you can book a meeting with Voyager editor Deonie Fiford or the above-mentioned Marc Gascoigne. These are huge, huge, huge opportunites people, do take advantage if you can.

There will also be workshops. Lots of workshops, convering a wide range of interesting topics. I'm looking at giving one or two myself. Nothing I like better than yattering about writing!

But really, this is just the tip of that proverbial old iceberg. So don't miss out on what will be a wonderful convention.
